Seattle Chocolate

3282A17B-3643-420D-8516-3BE655E481B2Chocolate bar companies excel in combing up with new combinations, sometimes with wondrous results. Other times not so much. Here’s three from Seattle Chocolate Company that I tried recently, evaluated across a number of axes.

Happy Birthday Cake Batter Milk Chocolate Truffle Bar

Taste: Tasty milk chocolate with a layer of white chocolate and candy confetti. The layers are in nice proportions, with the milk chocolate predominating without suppressing the other two flavors.
Texture: Silky truffle chocolate with crunchy little candy bits is a delightful mix.
Appearance: This is a pretty bar, well designed and picturesque, of the usual shape.
Niftiness: The name is a cute conceit, and this is a very cupcake kind of candy bar. Plus you can give it to someone for their birthday!

Nostalgia: Cupcakes are always good.
Product notes: 200 calories per serving, 2 servings per bar (70 grams total). Rainforest Alliance Certified (31% of total cocoa), non-GMO, Women Owned, Kosher Dairy.
Overall: Big thumbs up on this one.

B495A774-B819-4A4B-B0AB-9109CBE96F61Moon Rocks Milk Chocolate Truffle Bar with Popping Candy

Taste: Milk chocolate shot through with wonderful bits of pop rocks.
Texture: Truffle-textured chocolate shot through with sparkles of fizzy pop rocks, like glitter in your mouth. I love this.
Appearance: This is a seemly bar, and of the usual shape for Seattle Chocolate bars.
Niftiness: Celebrates the 50th anniversary of the moon launch!
Nostalgia: Pop rocks are even more delightful when encased in chocolate.
Product notes: 190 calories per serving, 2 servings per bar (70 grams total). Rainforest Alliance Certified (no percentage of total cocoa given), non-GMO, Women Owned, Kosher Dairy.
Overall: I thought this was fun as well as delicious. More crackle in one’s chocolate is never a bad thing. Another thumbsup.

Strawberry Shortcake Truffle Bar

2B48A9C9-6EF7-43CA-A3BA-A0C6E154A9F1Taste: White chocolate interspersed large chunks of dried strawberry which someone reminded me of hitting pheasants while driving on the highway, that sort of unanticipated thud to the senses. Your mileage may vary. I did like the overall white chocolate bar part, which tasted like Crunchberries in milk.
Texture: This is where the bar fell severely short for me, because the chunks of dried fruit were unappealing
Appearance: This is the usual shape for Seattle Chocolate bars.
Niftiness: The mouth feel left me too sad to think it nifty.
Product notes: 190 calories per serving, 2 servings per bar (70 grams total). Rainforest Alliance Certified (no percentage of total cocoa given), non-GMO, Women Owned, Kosher Dairy.
Overall: Not a winner. Not a fan. I think that pheasant’s dead, Susan.
