Looking for something a bit different for this year’s Winter Chocolate Binge this month? How about something a bit…spicy? No, not that kind of spicy, I’m gonna keep it clean in this review y’all. This chocolate brand, made “exclusively for” Aldi, this bar is actually five smaller bars, each wrapped individually. It’s nice portion control, though this chocolate is tasty enough that stopping at one mini-bar will be a test of your willpower.
Each mini-bar is super easy to unwrap; a papery cover is more folded over each piece rather than sealed tightly. After unwrapping, the bar is nice and solid, with a good snap. I quickly broke my mini-bar into eight or nine small pieces easy to pop into my gaping maw. The chew? Super smooth, with more sink-your-teeth-in than melt-in-your-mouth. I’m shocked that a non-dairy chocolate has such a smoothness. (That’s right, file this one under “unintentionally vegan”!) There’s no percentage of cocoa listed, though as Moser makes an 85% cocoa, it’ll be less than that. If I had to take a guess, I’d say it’s under 65%, or they’d shout the antioxidant properties of this bar right on the label.
There’s a nice balance of sweetness and cocoa, with just a hint of chili. Not enough to make things spicy, but enough to give a thumbs-up to the brand’s truth in advertising. I found myself popping piece after piece into my mouth until I was surprised that my mini-bar was gone.
This one’s nice with a glass of red wine, or a cup of tea. It’d pair nicely with the usual cured meats and aged cheeses on a charcuterie board, along with some almonds and dried apricots. Yeah, that’s a nice, laid-back night right there.
